David Walliams – The Boy in the Dress

I’m writing this review on behalf of Oscar, our 9 yr old son. He recieved this book as a Christmas pressie from his Auntie Fiona and he loved it.

Its the first book in a good while that he has raced to finish, there are many about that have been started and discarded as they lost his interest.

This is, as the title states, a story about a 12 year old called Dennis. He lives with his Dad and older brother, his parents are separated and he misses his mum. He discovers an interest in reading Vogue and befriends Lisa, one of the coolest girls in school at detention. She has an avid interest in fashion and dress design and their friendship blossoms with him modelling her dress and eventually wearing it to school.

There are some good comedic characters in the story: Raj the local storekeeper and the french teacher in particular.

With excellent illustrations from Quentin Blake, Oscar thought the book was very funny and thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend.
