Boom Boom Pow

Last Saturday, Oscar and I headed to the O2 in Dublin to see The Black Eyed Peas supported by Cheryl Cole. It was Oscar’s first concert and he was really looking forward to it. It was a truly brilliant night which far exceeded our expectations. He was dumbstruck by the whole experience. Here’s Cheryl’s first [...]

I Gotta Feeling

This Saturday sees myself and Oscar hitting the road to Dublin. For his fast approaching birthday we’re heading to his first evah concert in the O2. The Black Eyed Peas supported by Cheryl Cole. He can’t wait. It is bringing back memories of the 80s and my first concerts. A crowd of us would take [...]

Benjamin Zander talk at TED

Conor brought this talk to my attention yesterday. He’s systematically working his way through all the TED conference talks on his drives to Dublin and letting me know what ones he reckons I’ll like. I love this one on classical music. Funny, touching and thought provoking. Excellent.

What’s not to like?

Via Blair and Conor, I’m loving this website. Mixes as many cowbells  and as much Christopher Walken dialogue as you desire to the mp3 of your choice. I went with Kate Bush’s Experiment IV and I’m liking the result. Whatcha think? Make your own at MoreCowbell.dj

Rawk on in Bandon

This weekend’ll be hopping in Bandon as the annual music festival takes place. We’ll be away tomorrow night but are hoping to get to either Saturday or Sunday nights’ free gigs at The Shambles to see The Blizzards, Republic of Loose and the Delorentos. Plenty happening the pubs too as can be seen in the [...]

Singing in the car

photo credit: Stephen Witherden I’ve never been partial to singing in the bath or shower, but I LOVE to sing whilst driving the car. I’m sure it drives the kids bananas most of the time. Though they have come around to my way of thinking and even the 2 year old shouts for “Together Mammy” [...]

Review of Smashing Pumpkins’ “Rotten Apples” – Greatest Hits

Smashing Pumpkins’ “Rotten Apples” – Greatest Hits Excellent compilation of the brilliant Smashing Pumpkins biggest hits. This is an album I return to again and again. When I get bored with Arcade Fire, The Killers, Feist etc etc and need to blow away the cobwebs, get some energy and sing really loudly, this is the CD that goes on. [...]

Review of The Very Best of The Smiths

The Very Best of The Smiths It doesn’t get much better than this. Having bought, played, lost and rediscovered plenty of Smiths’ CDs over the past many years, I spotted this CD for sale in Goldendiscs for €7 last week. Have been listening to it since. Its fabulous- a great collection of 23 favourite Smiths’ songs [...]

Review of “We were dead before the ship even sank” by Modest Mouse

“We were dead before the ship even sank” by Modest Mouse When its good, its very, very good, when its bad its just noisy. I love Johnny Marr. Well, ok, not really, but I do think he’s just brilliant on the guitar. I grew up on The Smiths and have found it increasingly difficult to [...]

Review of The Reminder by Feist

The Reminder by Feist This album has me smiling and tapping my feet. Of late, I’ve been in a veritable muscial doldrums and to be honest, if I listen to another Killers song, much as I have liked them over the past few months, I’ll go mad. Thankfully, I was recently recommended to give Feist’s “The Reminder” [...]
