Review of Dora the Explorer Laptop by VTech

Disappointing children’s toy which the 3 year old never really got much use or play out of.
Our nearly 4 year old daughter got this last year for her 3rd birthday. She’s a fan of the Dora the explorer TV series and is interested in computers as shes around them most of the time so we thought she’d enjoy this pretend Dora laptop. To be honest in the past year she hasn’t really used it much at all. There are 10 activities on it, but the graphics are very basic and the activities are too. Letters, words, sums, numbers. The 2 year old gets more use of it, turning it on and off to see the little 3D Dora dance and sing. She hasn’t really bothered with the activities, and tends just to use the laptop as part of her roleplay, that is, as her computer when playing office, shop or school in the playroom. The layout of the keyboard and mouse are easy to use as the letters follow normal alphabetic order rather than qwerty layout. It costs approximately €35 and is widely available in Smyths, Argos etc. To be honest, when she wants to play with the computer, she has more use of online applications such as Webkinz and clubpenguin which she plays on the normal PC.

Hi Beverly,
I wrote this review over a year ago, so I’m not sure if this laptop is still on sale.
The Vtech website is showing an updated similiar version here.
It has a link to where to buy.
Hope that helps.
