Wine Grape Varietals – Concise guide
Posted on | February 22, 2010 | No Comments
I really love the guide to wine grape varietals that Michael Siegler at www.winemcgee.com has produced.
He succinctly and cleverly describes over 35 varietals and blends under the following categories:
- pronunciation
- top regions
- type of food to pair with
- food dish suggestions
- cooking method
- pictorial representation of aromas
- taste bar graph
- description
- notable info
Just 6 pages:
- Barbera, Bordeaux blends, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere & Chardonnay
- Chenin Blanc, Dolcetto, Gamay, Gewurztraminer, Grenache, Gruner Veltliner
- Madeira, Malbec, Merlot, Mouvedre, Muscat, Nebbiolo
- Nero d’Avola, Petite Sirah, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Pinotage
- Port, Primitivo, Rhone blends, Riesling, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc
- Semillon, Sherry, Syrah/Shiraz, Tempranillo, Viognier, Zinfandel
Excellent detailed information imparted in an extremely easy to digest format. I’m totally in favour of anything that makes wine more accessible and makes life easier when choosing wine to accompany food or mood. Definitely worth printing out and having to hand for the next #twebt or any other blind tasting. A great starting point to supplement with your own particular notes and tastes to. It reminds me of the Aromicon blogpost.
Brilliant. Can you guess the grape varietal shown above?
